Thank you to CBC’s Farrah Merali for having me back on Here and Now on Radio One, this time to talk about This Is a Library Book! and about the importance of libraries and librarians.
We discussed the library moments that sparked the creation of this book, including the first librarian who made a huge difference in my life, Mr. Dyck, to whom the book is dedicated. And by the way–if you are Mr. Dyck or can help me locate him, please reach out! I’d love to let him know how important his kindness was for me.
A few minutes before the interview, while I was waiting to go on, I received an email from the publisher, Kids Can Press, that This Is a Library Book had been selected for a Eureka! Silver Award for non-fiction, by the California Reading Association, and Farrah announced it on the air!

The CBC also gave away two signed copies of the book to lucky listeners. (I threw in some stickers as well!)
And thank you to the talented Here and Now producers and to traffic guru Kevin Carrington, who helped make the experience even more awesome. (And shout-out to the front-desk security guard, D.!)
At the time of this post, a link to our conversation hadn’t yet been added to the CBC website, but thanks to my friend Val, here’s a recording of the eight-minute interview:

And here’s the conversation I had with Farrah in 2025, about “Burst Your Bubble!”:
