Young people at schools throughout Burnaby, British Columbia will have access to “Burst Your Bubble!” thanks to a generous donation by tech-and-ethics guru Morten Rand-Hendriksen.
Rand-Hendriksen was the main tech beta-reader for the book, helping Joyce Grant to simplify some of the more complicated aspects of algorithms and to make sure every fact was correct and would stand the test of time in a world where technology changes are so rapid. He also blurbed the book, and said it should be “on the shelves of every school library.” And this week, he put his money where his words were, purchasing 41 copies from independent bookseller Wildfires Bookshop in BC, to donate to every public school in Burnaby’s school district SD41.
Rand-Hendriksen’s career in tech and programming includes diving into the ethics and humanity of technology, to understand how it affects us. He calls himself an “UNfluencer,” and has a large presence on social media @mor10web where he talks about AI, technology, algorithms and their influence.
Thank you to Rand-Hendriksen for not only generously sharing your expertise to help make this book as helpful as it can be for young people, but for also helping to make sure it gets into their hands so they can improve their critical thinking and media literacy skills!
Burst Your Bubble! is beautifully illustrated by Jan Dolby and published by Owlkids Books.
