“Burst” is an OLA top 10 Best Bet!

“I’m happy to share that Burst Your Bubble has been selected for the Ontario Library Association’s 2025 Best Bets (Top 10) List in the Junior Non-Fiction Category.”

That is the wonderful email Jan Dolby (illustrator) and I received from Owlkids–one that made our day, week, month and maybe longer than that. The Ontario Library Association is an incredible group of hard-working and knowledgeable literary advocates and they know what they’re talking about. So getting accolades from them is special, indeed.

This honour comes on the heels of The California Reading Association selecting Burst! as a Silver Honor Book and also being included on Missouri Association of School Librarians’ 2026 Dogwood Outstanding Nonfiction Recommended Reading List (6th-8th grade).

Again, these are librarians who care about what kids read and we thank them for choosing Burst Your Bubble!

This has happened to Jan and me once before, back in 2013 when our first book together, “Gabby,” was chosen as an OLA Best Bet. Here’s a photo of our younger selves more than 10 years ago, in front of our book on the Best Bets rack at the OLA SuperConference.

THEN… Joyce Grant (left) and Jan Dolby can’t stop smiling at the 2013 OLA SuperConference as their first book together, “Gabby” was selected as an OLA Best Bet! With “Burst Your Bubble!” it’s deja-vu all over again.

AND NOW… Thirteen years later… Jan Dolby and I returned to the OLA Superconference in 2026 to celebrate Burst Your Bubble! being selected as a 2025 OLA Top 10 Best Bet!

Thank you to the team at Owlbooks and of course, thank you to Burst’s wonderful illustrator Jan Dolby.
And thanks again, OLA! We are HONOURED!

Okay, there may have been some hijinx and nonsense as we went from booth to booth at the OLA SuperConference…
One of the best parts of the day was when we both got to take the stage during CANSCAIP’s “book tasting” event and talk about our book!
